Five Best Yoga Poses for the Beginners

There are certain yoga poses which you can practice for improving the quality of your life. In this article, we have gathered up some of the best yoga poses for the beginners which you can practice at home. Adding these yoga poses to your daily routine will help you in understanding your body for the greater good.

  1. Mountain Pose

This is the base for all yoga poses (standing). It seems easy but there is much going on.

Doing the mountain Pose:

  • Stand tall with your feet together.
  • Spread your 10 toes open pressing into the ground.
  • Lift your kneecaps and engage your quadriceps to feel the tension in your inner thigh muscles.
  • Open up your chest (take a deep breath), draw in your stomach and keep your shoulders relaxed.
  • Stay in this position for as much time. If possible, hold your breath for 8-10 seconds.

 

  1. Downward Facing Dog

It is one of the easiest yoga poses that helps in strengthening the entire body. Practicing it will certainly keep the doctor away.

Doing downward facing dog pose:

  • Come down on all fours; keep your knees under your hips and wrists under your shoulders.
  • Walk your hands a few inches forward, press down the fingers and spread them open.
  • Keep your kneed straight and not bent. Pull your back portion (hips) upwards, making your body position look like an inverted V ( /\ ).
  • Stay in this position for three full breaths and you can slightly bend the knees if you find it difficult.

 

  1. Plank

Plank is one the best yoga poses for improving our core strength. It teaches us how to breathe efficiently while strengthening the abdominals. It is a challenging pose but can do wonders for your health.

Doing the Plank:

  • Come on to all fours (push-up position); slide the heels back until your body is aligned like a straight line.
  • Take a deep breath and push your body upwards keeping the elbows straight.
  • Stay in this position for as long as you can.

 

  1. Tree

For the beginners, tree is one of the best yoga poses to practice for gaining clarity and focus. This pose teaches us how to keep our body balanced while standing on one foot.

Doing the Tree Pose:

  • Start by standing in a straight position.
  • Now, lift your left foot and place it on your inner right upper thigh.
  • Press your hands against each other (palm-to-palm), like when we do prayer.
  • You can either close your eyes or focus on something with a steady gaze.
  • Stay in this position for as long as you can.
  • Repeat the procedure with your right foot.

 

  1. Triangle

Triangle is a wonderful yoga pose to practice. It helps in toning our body from top to bottom. It stretches our body from sides (waists), strengthens the legs and opens up the lungs.

Doing triangle pose:

  • Start by standing in a straight position.
  • Open your legs wide open; turn your left foot to 90° and the toes of your right foot to 45°.
  • Stretch out your arms upwards.
  • Engage your abdominals and quadriceps as you hinge towards your left leg. Place your left hand on your left leg (try to reach below the kneecap) while keeping your right hand stretched and upward.
  • Turn your head up and hold a steady gaze towards your right arm.
  • Stay in this position for around 7-10 breaths and then follow the same procedure for the other side.
